INFORMATION ON HOW TO REGISTER AND OTHER NEED TO KNOW INFORMATION:
Computer-Based Testing
To register for a computer-based PPST using a credit or debit card, call Prometric Candidate Services
at 1-800-853-6773. A list of test centers is available on the Praxis website. To register and pay by
check, money order, or U.S. Postal Service money order, complete the CBT Authorization Voucher
Request form available on the website and submit it to the address on the form with payment.
Computer-based testing for the Praxis I® Pre-professional Skills Test (PPST) is offered continuously
throughout the year. You may take the computer-based test PPST only once per calendar month, and
no more than 6 times within a 12-month period. This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test
taken previously.
Register Online
For paper-based PPST and Praxis II Subject Assessments using a credit or debit card (American
Express®, Discover®, JCB®, MasterCard®, and VISA®). Note: Any debit/check card branded with one
of the five accepted credit card logos can be processed. ETS reserves the right to add or remove
online payment methods at its own discretion and without notice. To register and pay by check, money
order, or U.S. Postal Service money order, download and complete the Paper-Based Test Registration
Form and submit it to the address on the form with payment. The list of information required for
registration can be found on the Praxis website.
NOTE: Pennsylvania requires a social security number (SSN) in order to process teacher certification
paperwork. ETS does not require your SSN for its own purposes, but will submit it to your state agency
with your test results. Failure to provide your SSN could delay Pennsylvania Department of
Education in processing your certification application.


Carefully review the Kutztown University Praxis Test Requirements by certification area on
pages 7-11 of this document. These pages provide information about which tests you must
have taken prior to clinical experience for your certification area. REMEMBER, IT IS YOUR
RESPONSIBILITY TO TAKE THE APPROPRIATE TESTS!! The PPST (PRAXIS I) must be taken
and passed by the semester in which you reach 48 credits. Praxis II test(s) need to be taken
or proof of taking the test by August 1st for Fall Clinical Experience and by December 1st for
Spring Clinical Experience. Passing official scores must be on file at Kutztown University. This
includes KU and transfer credits.

The following policy applies to recent testing changes: PDE will recognize the score of tests that
have been replaced for a period of ten years from the date of the test administration; however, if a
replaced test is taken after the effective date of replacement, PDE will not recognize that test score.
Please check with your advisor or PDE if you are uncertain about the status of a replaced test you
may have taken within the past ten years. This is only applicable for candidates getting certified in
PA only.

PDE’s policy states that applicants must meet the qualifying scores that are in effect for each test
on the date that PDE receives the application for certification.

If you want to be certified in a state other than Pennsylvania you should refer to the on-line Praxis
Bulletin. You can also explore the website of the state department of education for the state in
which you are seeking certification.

New Assessment: Candidates who will do Clinical Experience in Fall 2003 and thereafter will be
required to get a satisfactory rating on the PDE 430 – Pennsylvania Statewide Evaluation Form for
Student Professional Knowledge and Practice.
KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY AS ADDITIONAL SCORE RECIPIENTS:
IMPORTANT: In order for your application for certification to be processed at KU, you MUST identify
Kutztown University and PDE as score recipients every time you register for a PRAXIS test. You do this
by recording the KU identification number "2653" and the PDE identification number “8033” in Section
12, Agencies to Receive Score Reports, on the Praxis Registration Form. In addition, the PDE
identification number “8033” should be listed in section 13 as the agency from which you would like to
receive passing score information.
IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS IT WILL COST YOU $40.00 TO HAVE AN ADDITIONAL SCORE REPORT
SENT TO KUTZTOWN UNIVESITY. WE MUST RECEIVE OFFICIAL SCORE REPORT AND LABELS
FROM EDUCATIONAL TESTING SERVICES (ETS).
WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT IDENTIFICATION (ID) REQUIREMENTS?
Valid ID with name, signature, and photograph is required for admission to a test center. ID
requirements are strictly enforced. When scheduling your test, you must use exactly the same name
as shown on the primary ID document that you will present at the test center. If your primary ID is
missing either a photo or a signature, you must present a supplemental ID in addition to your primary
ID. For a list of acceptable primary and supplemental ID documents are on the Praxis website.
3
WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT ELECTRONIC DEVICES?
Cell phones, BlackBerry® devices, PDAs and any other electronic or photographic devices are
not permitted at the test center. If you bring such devices to the test center, you will be dismissed
from the test, your registration and test fees will be forfeited and your scores will be canceled. If you
are seen USING such a device, in addition to the above conditions, the device will be confiscated and
inspected. Test center staff are not permitted to collect or store devices.
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY SCORES?
³Scores for tests that are administered during a specific testing window will be available by web 10–15 business days
after the testing window closes (regardless of the specific day on which you tested within that window).
Note: Occasionally, some scores may be unavailable on the dates specified due to processing delays or data updates.
There are two ways you can receive your scores:
Online
Your official score report will be available online via your My Praxis account on the score release date. (See table above
for exact dates.) Your scores will also be sent to up to three institutions/agencies you selected during the registration
process.
Online scores are downloadable for 45 calendar days. After 45 days, they will no longer be available and you
will need to request additional score reports for a $40 fee (per request). We recommend saving a copy of your
score report for future reference.
Note: if you registered online for a computer-delivered test or registered by phone or mail, you must create a My Praxis
account in order to access your scores. Test takers who registered online for a paper-delivered test have already
created an account.
Phone
Scores are also available to you slightly earlier than the score release date by phone for a $30 fee (per request).
Note: Scores are not reported to institutions or agencies by phone. The phone service is for your information only.
You will need the following to access our automated service:

Your Social Security number or candidate ID number

Your date of birth

Your test date


ADDING FURTHER INSTRUCTIONAL AREAS AND WHERE TO FIND THE 338 G ADD-ON FORM
As a further result of the recent Pennsylvania State Board resolutions, adding an additional instructional
area to an existing Pennsylvania certificate now involves the following procedures.
Additional Instructional areas can be added to an existing, valid PA Instructional certificate by taking
and passing the appropriate PRAXIS test where:
1. Praxis tests are already in existence and used in PA
2. The Praxis test assesses academic content, and
3. Pennsylvania has established cut scores.
NOTE: The following areas are excluded from this procedure: Elementary Education; Early
Childhood Education; Health & Physical Education; Safety-Driver Education and all Special
Education areas. Also any Instructional subject with “no qualifying score”.
Foreign Language areas other than French, Spanish, German or Latin MUST take the American
Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL) test for the language and achieve a minimum of
Intermediate High on both the oral and written ACTFL assessments.
Individuals may add another instructional area to an existing certificate without any processing of
documentation or test scores through colleges or universities. Official test score information, the PDE
338G Add-On form and $100.00 Money Order (payable to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania) should
be sent directly to PDE. The 338 G Add-On form can be downloaded from www.pde.state.pa.us.
