Choose two of the poems from the handout we have read so far (excluding “An Introduction to
Poetry” and “Facing It”). Please choose from:
“A Red Palm”
“The Unknown Citizen”
“Curiosity”
“Living in the Body”
“Dulce et Decorum Est”
“The Need of Being Versed…”
In the class period (all papers are due PROMPTLY at 2:15), write as a complete an essay as
possible comparing and contrasting the poems you have chosen. This will amount to your
discussing what the poems have in common as well as what makes them different. Make sure
you discuss both the “what” (theme) and the “how” (style). For some of the terms please utilize
handout, “Some Preliminary Questions/ Guidelines” and the glossary of your text PBMP. Be
sure to structure your material in essay form and write legibly. Grading criteria follow:
Clear thesis:
