ADVANCED VOLLEYBALL
Catalog Description:
PHED 1 AVB – Advanced Volleyball
0.5 unit
Prerequisite: Previous instruction in ball handling, spiking, serving and team play. The class will meet 2
hours per week.
Prerequisite Skills:
Previous instruction in ball handling, spiking, serving and team play.
Expected Outcomes for the Students:
Students should develop skills that will enable them to play an advanced grade of competitive volleyball.
Advanced skills should be introduced and practiced during the quarter.
Course Content:
1. Study of the U.S.V.B.A. and International Volleyball Rules in depth.
2. Skills:
a. The serve as an offensive weapon.
b. Set various
c. Spiking techniques.
d. Service receipt variations.
e. Advanced switching techniques.
f. Diving and rolling saves.
g. Blocking.
3. Offensive formations.
4. Defensive formations.
5. Team play and strategy.
6. Officiating techniques.
7. Intra-class competition.
Methods of Presentation:
The class will be taught by means of explanation, class drills, demonstration, lecture and visual aids.
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
A written examination to determine the student's understanding of rules and skills techniques.
