SYMPHONIC BAND II
Catalog Description:
12B - Symphonic Band II
May be repeated 3 times
1 unit
For continuing instrumentalists who want experience in performing and interpreting concert band
literature. The music literature will cover all important aspects of the wind band development
including original band works, transcriptions, marches and large works of all styles and periods.
Emphasis will be on articulations, stylistic differences, and common performance practices of the
various periods of music. Enrollment subject to a standardized audition demonstrating musical
ability and technical proficiency at a level suitable to the course level. Prerequisite: Music 12A
(completed with a grade of “C” or higher) or equivalent. 4 hours laboratory.
Prerequisite Skills:
Before entering this class, students should be able to:

develop rehearsal and performance techniques and other technical strategies which form the
substance of the course.

Course Content:
1. Prepare specific repertoire for public performance
2. Study technique, validity of style, shadings of interpretation
3. Develop rehearsal and performance techniques and other technical strategies which form the
substance of the course
