The Emory University Department of Medicine is extremely proud to announce that this year’s Albert E. Levy Scientific Research Awards for Junior and Senior Faculty are both awarded to Department of Medicine faculty! Congratulations to Professor of Medicine Leslee Shaw, PhD (Cardiology), recipient of the award for senior faculty, whose work on the effectiveness of cardiovascular imaging has led to groundbreaking findings on long-‐term prognosis of major atherosclerotic and ischemic risk markers; and Assistant Professor of Medicine David S. Weiss, PhD (Infectious Diseases), who won the award for junior faculty for work seeking to reveal the ways in which bacterial pathogens resist antibiotics and the host immune system, so as to develop novel therapeutics to combat drug-‐resistant bacteria. The Levy Award was established to recognize the contributions of Emory faculty members to the advancement of scientific knowledge and is open to all Emory faculty in the fields of mathematics, social, chemical, physical and biological sciences. Awards for junior and senior faculty are selected yearly by the University Research Committee to recognize outstanding research publications. The Levy Award is the University’s highest research honor.
