Minutes for Meeting of January 12, 2009
A scheduled meeting of ASCAP was held on Monday, January 12 at 3:00 p.m. in Holden Hall 129.
Committee members present were: Ken Baake, Jim Clopton, Greg Gellene, Ram Iyer, Nicole McKenna,
Anthony Qualin, and David Roach. Presenters were: Drs. Jeff Williams and Paul Johnson (Sociology,
Anthropology, and Social Work), Dr. Danny Nathan (Philosophy), and Drs. Randy McBee and Sean
Cunningham (History).
1. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following course proposal
from the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work:
• Proposal for SOC 1301 Introduction to Sociology to be added to the list of courses in the
TTU Core Curriculum that satisfy the Multicultural requirement.
2. The following course proposal from the Department of Philosophy was withdrawn by Dr. Nathan:
• Change title of PHIL 5308 Basic Issues in Contemporary Philosophy to “Special Topics
in Philosophy.”
3. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following course proposals
from the Department of Philosophy:
• Change title of PHIL 5311 Issues in Logic and Epistemology to “Seminar in
Epistemology.”
• Add PHIL 5315 Topics in Aesthetics.
4. Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the
following course proposal from the Department of Philosophy:
• Add PHIL 5333 Seminar in Philosophy of Language.
5. Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the
following course proposal from the Department of History:
• Change title of HIST 5304 Historical Methods to “The Nature of History.”
6. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following course proposals
from the Department of History:
• Change title of HIST 5305 Historiography to “Historiography of European History.”
• Change title of HIST 5307 Studies in World History to “Historiography of World
History.”
• Change title of HIST 5311 Studies in US Colonial and Revolutionary History to
“Historiography of Early America.”
• Change title of HIST 5312 Studies in 19th Century United States History to
“Historiography of Nineteenth-Century America.”
• Change title of HIST 5313 Recent Interpretations of American History to
“Historiography of 20th-Century America.”
• Add HIST 5314 Studies in Post-1945 United States History.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of ASCAP is scheduled for Monday, January 26, for proposals that
reach the committee and the Dean’s office by Monday, January 19.
