CSU Scholar News
Professor Lolita Buckner Inniss was recently awarded a grant from
the New Jersey Historical Commission for the completion of her book
manuscript in progress, The Princeton Fugitive Slave: James Collins
Johnson, a work which was originally funded by a Faculty
Scholarship Initiative. Her book explores the intersection of race,
gender, slavery and the law. Nine grants were awarded, and
applicants were drawn from a national pool.
To date, Professor Inniss has received a total of $23,000.00 in
external awards to support her FSI-related research from the New
York University - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique,
Friends of the Princeton University Library, Hamilton College, the
Princeton University Department of History, and the New Jersey Historical Commission.
Congratulations, Professor Inniss!

PIs Return of IDCs Set to Double
The Office of Research is pleased to announce that there will be a new distribution of indirect
cost (IDC) return earned on direct expenditures from sponsored research grants and contracts
awarded to Cleveland State University. The intent of this new distribution is to help stimulate the
growth of research and scholarship at CSU by increasing the return of IDC from 5% to 10% to
principal investigators whose research success generates IDC. The new IDC distribution will
apply to all direct expenditures from sponsored research grants and contracts effective July 1,
2014.
Undergraduate Summer Research Award Proposals Under Review
Fifty-seven proposals were received from five colleges with requests totaling $460,754.
Proposals are currently under review, and award decisions are expected by March 14, 2014. The
Office of Research would like to thank all of the faculty members who are currently working hard
to provide thoughtful, quality, and timely reviews.

Faculty Course Release or Release Time Form
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and Research Services have developed an
updated version of the Faculty Course Release or Release Time Form that now accepts
electronic signatures. This form, which is posted online along with other grant forms, is to be
used when full-time faculty are released from their regularly assigned courses or other duties so
that they may perform grant-related work and should be submitted prior to the period for which
released time is requested. This form is NOT to be used for faculty compensation during the
summer. A faculty summer contract is needed for that purpose.
