SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Notes
6/25/09
Notes provided by Burley (richard.j.burley@nasa.gov), Biagetti (biagetti@stsci.edu, and others as
indicated.

Summary:
The gyro motor current safemode limits were established for 3 gyro
operations. TCS team recommends raising the temperature limits of the STIS MEB1 for “hotseason” operations. WFC3 UVIS Anneal, IR Functional, and other internals all look nominal.
The WFC3 CSM test (first WFC3 external observation) was successful; M81 UVIS images
and IR images are nominal and look to be near focus. COS FUV high-voltage ramp-up
continues with good results. ACS remains in Suspend. STIS MAMAs and COS NUV remain
idle while ARB analysis continues. [Note: Post-meeting, the SI C&DH ARB authorized the
resumption of SMOV high-voltage operations, pending the development and installation of
appropriate protection measures relative to a repeat of the SI C&DH anomaly. STIS CCD
and COS FUV SMOV have already resumed this week. The resumption of COS NUV SMOV
is planned for SMS187 (July 6). STIS MAMA SMOV resumes only after implementation of
low-voltage management (2-4 weeks to complete) and proper protections put in place.
rd
Resumption of ACS SMOV is pending the investigation of the June 23 Suspend anomaly.]
- Observatory Status
o
PCS/SAC
 The gyro motor current safemode limits were established for 3 gyro
operations
• Gyro 3 was removed from the vehicle control law
• Bias and offset tables were loaded for the A-failed gyro triplet.
• Subsequent pointing control system performance was nominal.
• OBAD maps were executed per Ops Request 18554
o In each of the next two orbits to monitor vehicle attitude and
bias.
 Vehicle bias
• Estimated at 175:23:50
• Approximately sufficiently large to warrant a LBBIAS
• However delays in the processing of the load prevented its uplink
prior to the vehicle slew at 01:12.
• The GS Acquisition at 01:45 failed due to the high gyro bias
preventing the observer from converging.
• A subsequent set of OBAD maps were executed at 02:55 and 03:20
to produce an updated LBBIAS
o uplinked prior to the GS Acquisition at 06:12.
o The acquisition and subsequent reacquisition were
successful.
• The MEGG appears to indicate that no science observations were
being performed between 01:45 and 06:00.

PACOR
 Nominal
 From June 24 (8am) to June 25 (8am), Pacor-A received five events with
fast-track observations.
• The data was processed and delivered to OPUS without any
problems.
o
OPUS
 Planning to install a quick fix for calwf3 (PR 62948)
• To solve the failures in processing WFC3/IR subarrays.
• Fix was delivered by SSB to DSB yesterday afternoon
o Will be tested with regression data this morning.
o After the regression data are reviewed and OKed, we will
install the fix in operations.
o There is a window when no quick turn-around dumps are
scheduled
 Between 11:36 UT today and 15:37 UT tomorrow
 Installation can be activated with no effect on
SMOV.
 SSB delivered a version of MultiDrizzle
• Will fix problems seen in On-The-Fly Reprocessing for two ACS
associations from August 2004.
• We will install this only if the regression data are OKed.

Nominal
Supported VDT gyro configuration and gyro bias update
Neither of these fixes are expected to solve the "segmentation violation"
errors seen with WFC3/UVIS overnight.
• If a re-delivery of calwf3 solving that problem is received soon and
tested, we will consider installing it in this time window
Otherwise we will have to look for suitable gaps in quick turn around
dumps early next week.
Data for WFC3 proposal 11424 will be fast-tracked early this morning
• no other fast-track data are expected in the next 24 hours.
