SOCIAL WORKER III
ADOPTION / FOSTER CARE SOCIAL WORKER
Description of Work: This position is responsible for providing services to adoptive couples
and individuals that include, but are not limited to: adoption assessments and summaries,
assistance in locating adoptive children appropriate for placement, providing the court with
placement and progress information, and providing post-adoption services. In addition, this
position will recruit, assess, license, train, select and match foster/adoptive families for
children in care; and prepare children and families for the transition into foster/adoptive
homes; provide support to children and families in finalizing adoptions.
The position may also be responsible for managing a caseload of foster children for which
duties include, but are not limited to working with foster children and their family members
when reunification with the family is the plan of care and/or preparing the family and
child(ren) for an alternative plan of permanent care; planning, arranging and/or providing and
monitoring services to foster children and their families; preparing for and testifying in court
hearings; assessing, planning and providing an array of services to current foster youth and
former foster youth and providing crisis intervention, etc.
The social worker will perform other duties as assigned. Flexible working hours are required.
Must have a vehicle available for work and have a valid NC driver’s license.
Minimum Training and Experience: Master’s degree in social work from an accredited
school of social work preferred. However, a bachelor’s degree in social work from an
accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative is
acceptable; or graduation from a four- year college or university with work experience in
social work or related human services field.
