THE PARISH RETREAT AT EASTERN POINT IN GLOUCESTER is scheduled for June 4th – 6th.
We
are aware that this month is a particularly busy one for people. If you are interested in
coming to the retreat it would be helpful if you could call the rectory (617-552-6102) now
to register so that we can plan accordingly. We hope that you can take advantage of this
opportunity for personal renewal and refreshment.
In particular, if you have never
experienced a retreat or if it’s been a long time since your last one, we especially invite you to join us. The
cost of the weekend is $200 with all meals included.

CONCERT INVITATION
You are all cordially invited to two voice recitals entitled "A FANTABULOUS EVENING OF
SONG AND FUN”, given by Michelle Abadia, soprano and guitarist, on Thursday and Friday,
April 8th and 9th, 7:30 PM, at Lasell College, 1844 Commonwealth Avenue, Auburndale-Newton.
Michelle has served as cantor here at St. Ignatius for nearly 15 years. The Thursday performance
will take place at the De Witt Hall Auditorium. The Friday performance will take place at the
Lasell Village Ballroom. Both venues are located on the Lasell College Campus.
The program
will feature works by G. F. Handel, F. Schubert, R. Schumann, L. Bernstein, I. Berlin and S.
Sondheim, as well as melodies from the Latin American folklore. The concerts are free and open

Each session will begin with a presentation of no more than 30 minutes followed by time for
individual prayer and concluding with small group discussions, facilitated by Ben or Chris, that
will give participants an opportunity to reflect on the prayer experiences and ask questions.

founded
a
small
non-profit
called
Village
Health
Works
(http://villagehealthworks.org) which does work in Burundi, will be giving a talk at St. Ignatius about his
work and experiences. Village Health Works is working with community members in the rural village of
Kigutu (located approximately 70 miles south of the capital city of Bujumbura) to develop a model
community health center. This health center provides critically needed primary care to the 40,000 people of
Kigutu and the surrounding area. Deo’s work and life are featured in a recent book by Tracy Kidder
(Strength in What Remains, weblink: http://www.tracykidder.com/books/strength), very limited
copies of which are available without charge in the rectory offices.

We will begin in the Upper Church with the rehearsal, which should last until 6:30pm.
Afterwards, candidates, parents, siblings, other relatives, and sponsors are welcome to a potluck
supper in the Friary Room. If you plan to attend the supper, please bring a dish to pass that feeds
6-8 people.
Celebration of Confirmation
Friday, April 30, 7pm
Candidates and their sponsors should be in the Friary Room by 6:30pm. All other guests should
gather in the Upper Church.
FIRST RECONCILIATION & EUCHARIST

Church.
ST. COLUMBKILLE PARTNERSHIP SCHOOL is now accepting registrations for the
2010-2011 school year. A limited number of openings are available in grades Pre-K through 8.

THE SACRAMENTS
BAPTISM
Adults are baptized at the Easter Vigil as part of the Rites of Christian Initiation for
Adults. Infant and child baptisms are by arrangement.
FIRST EUCHARIST
Preparation occurs in Grade 1 and includes classes, retreats and home instruction.
CONFIRMATION
Our Confirmation program begins in the 9th grade. Students are confirmed in the
Spring of the 10th grade. Young adults who have been catechized but are not yet
confirmed should contact the rectory for an alternative program.
MATRIMONY
Must be registered as a parishioner six months prior to beginning Marriage
arrangements.
RECONCILIATION
Saturdays 3:15 - 3:45 PM Upper Church or by arrangement
