 DiscussionofquestionthataroseatCETLworkshopon“MakingCultural
Connections:Diversity&GlobalLearningAcrosstheCurriculum”asto
whetherthelibraryofferssufficientpublicationstosupportdiversityand
globallearningaspartofanewHighImpactStrategy.Prof.Galvinpointed
outEthnicNewsWatchincludesvariousethnicgrouppublications.Sinceit’s
impossibletodigitalizeeverything,thepurchasesandsubscriptionsofe‐
booksandjournalsareavailableonline.
 GoingovertheLibraryCommittee’scharges.Understandanddiscussthe
responsibilitiesinthefollowingareas:
1. TwoworkstationsforAmericanDisabilityAct(ADA)inthelibraryavailable
forwheelchairstudents.
2. Spaceinlibrary‐inadequatespaceinlibrary.Couldalwaysusemore.
3. CommitteeagreestoreviewourCommitteeGuideinadvanceofournext
meetingtoconsiderwhetherrevisionsarenecessary.
4. BaruchCollegelibraryofferslibraryminordegreeandlibrarycoursesfor
students.
5. LIB101experimentalcoursewastobereplacedbyNewINTE
(interdisciplinary)librarycourse,acredit‐bearing200seriesone;however,
althoughitwasapprovedbytheCurriculumCommitteeandtheAcademic
Senate,itwasnotapprovedbythePathwaysReviewCommittee.
6. Prof.Careyraisedquestionsinregardtovisuallyimpairedcomputer
softwareavailabilityatcomputerstationsforstudents.Prof.Galvin
respondedthatthereisadaptivesoftwareintheAcademicComputerCenter
butnotinthelibrary.Prof.DiGiorgioagreestocontactServicesforStudents
withDisabilitiestoseewhatsortofassistivesoftwareisavailable.
7. ThereisalibraryinsidetheHolocaustCenterforholocaustresources.
However,thecatalogueforthatisinthemainlibrarybuilding.
8. Prof.Galvinwillcheckouttheinformationforlongtermplanningforlibrary
servicesintheCUNYMasterPlan
9. DiscussionregardingarequestmadebytheSteeringCommitteeofthe
AcademicSenateandtheAcademicFreedomCommitteeforanAcademic
FreedombookshelfintheQueensborougharchivesroom.ProfessorGalvin
discussestheproblemsoffindingphysicalspaceforsuchashelfand
proposesthepossiblealternativeofaLIBGuideentitled“Academic
Freedom”thatcouldbefeaturedontheLibrarywebsitehomepageandthat
wouldfeaturelinkstomaterialavailableindigitalformandaguideto
materialthatisavailableinnon‐digitalform.
