Controller Design to Operate One 4 Zone Furnace

The design and construction of a controller that can operate one 4 zone furnace will be discussed. Having a different
number of zones in a furnace allows an experiment to be designed where a temperature gradient can be used. This
allows for a different crystal growth technique than those currently used in the Bellott research group. The purpose
for building the controller is cost. A commercially built controller which won’t exactly fit our needs will cost
approximately $2000 dollars. The controller we have built cost the research group $250 dollars.
