Review of Administrative Responsibilities – With the new superintendent at the
department, things are being done differently. Dr. Marple has been out to visit
schools and will be visiting more. Be sure that you talk to your staff concerning
being aware of department goals, etc. because questions to this effect could be
asked during a visit.
Before you plan on your staff development, do a needs survey so your trainings
will be based on staff and student needs.
WV On Target/Virtual Schools can be assets to your programs. The individuals you
have monitoring these programs need to be certified teachers. A student does
not need to fail a class in order to do credit recover. WV On Target is the only
approved program. When coding in WVEIS for virtual school, the final digit is V,
do not put a teacher that is on permit as a virtual instructor, will not be highly
qualified.
Adult facilities including Anthony will be putting information into WVEIS. In order
to get Perkins, ABE must be counted in a database that the federal government
will accept.
Transition database is not optional, this information must be entered into
database. Send to Candy at the Beckley Center. This information is very
important, if you have any problems call Fran, Kari or Kellie and they will be glad
to assist you.
We are working on a transition brochure that has information and contact
information to assist students going back to a county school system. You
individual who handles transition needs to attend the MDT meeting.
Be sure to go over your strategic plan quarterly with your staff. This is very
important for OEPA audits.
Our improvement packages include the Davis Center – DJS girls – continuation of
programs, CTE positions at juvenile facilities, McDowell County Correctional, and
Pressley Ridge @ Laurel Park. We will notify you when and if these are approved.
Student Individual Academic Plan – Dewayne Duncan
Counselors need to meet with students and look at current transcripts. Have
them fill out this student individual academic form and talk to kids about their
goals. If there are questions or corrections let Dewayne know.
Employee Handbook is ready for review. Share this with your staff, give copies of
the comment form. If they have comments or changes send comment form to
Rhonda by October 28, 2011.
Music, Dance, Art – Think about options that you have at your facility to offer
these to your students. Please send us the information on what you are working
on and what steps you are taking.
Physical Education Plans – Dewayne Duncan is having a meeting to go over the
individual site plans – bring inventory of what you have at facility, ideas. We are
currently looking for a location for the physical education meeting. We are trying
for October 21 at the Hilton Garden in Clarksburg.
WVDE goals were discussed and how they will be included in our strategic plan for
OIEP and for the individual schools.
OIEP Work Plan initiatives and objectives were discussed with all principals.
Certification – Jacob – Still some 2011 issues, we are waiting for waivers to be
approved. Alternative education still showing pending downstairs, with audits
coming up if they are not showing active by Wednesday we will call and see that
they are moved. Administrators if you need to renew, call Jacob so he can go over
individually.
Personnel Action Forms – correct the division on your template, include position
numbers on the personnel action forms. This is really helpful and helps with
processing in a timely manner.
Matt Kittle and J. P. Tenney presented to the group on Improvement Plans and
instructions on how to write effective improvement plans. Notebooks including
all the forms necessary to complete these improvement plans were distributed.
Kellie Tetrick did a presentation on Explore/Plan for juvenile principals.
Dewayne Duncan met with juvenile principals who work at Title I schools for an
update and for distribution of their Title I budgets.
