Plant Breeding and
Applied Plant Genomics Initiative
North Carolina State University and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
have a long and distinguished history of innovative plant breeding research and
development of quantitative genetic theory. We are working today to build on
that tradition by developing an initiative that we expect will lead to the creation
of a center for plant breeding and applied plant genomics.
Projected Focus Areas
Broadening Graduate Student Training Opportunities
Broadening Genetic Diversity of Plant Germplasm
Transformation Technology For Species Not Easily
Transformed
Gene Mapping in Unmapped Crops, Such as Fruits
and Vegetables
Breeding for Resistance to Biotic and Abiotic Stresses
Food Nutrition, Food Safety and Food Security
