Before I begin this lesson with the students, I prepare a chart with the directions to the
lesson. On this chart I have written:

Directions for Making a Fraction Set
1.
You should have 5 sheets of colored
paper.
2.
Cut each sheet of paper into equal
pieces.
a.
1st red sheet- 2 equal pieces
b.
2nd yellow sheet- 4 equal
pieces
c.
3rd orange sheet- 8 equal
pieces

d.
4th green sheet- 3 equal pieces
e.
5th blue sheet- 6 equal pieces
Fold the first sheet of paper into equal
pieces and draw lines to separate them.
4.
Label each piece with the fraction
name.
5.
Check with another pair to make sure
that you have equal pieces and that
your fraction name is correct.
6.
Cut apart each equal piece.
7.
Repeat steps 3-6 with each sheet until
you have a complete Fraction Set.

