DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Quality Assurance Analyst - 60041981
*Salary Grade – 67; Recruitment Range - $35,474 - $40,000
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest,
most complex agencies in the state and has over 17,000 employees. It is responsible for
ensuring the health, safety and well being of all North Carolinians.
The Division of Social Services provides direct services that address issues of poverty, family
violence and exploitation. We aim to prevent abuse, neglect and exploitation of vulnerable
citizens, and promote self-reliance and self-sufficiency for individuals and families.
This Quality Assurance Analyst is a home-based position and will primarily serve the following
counties: Pitt, Beaufort, Edgecombe, Nash, Martin, and Bertie Counties. Job responsibilities
include:
Research, investigate, and evaluate county Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) records for

proper compliance with Federal and State laws for proper administration of the Food and
Nutrition Services Program
Conduct an in-depth review and evaluation of cases assigned to the analyst on a monthly
basis
Interview recipients and contact various sources (landlords, employers, etc.) in executing
this evaluation
Provide training and technical assistance to county income maintenance staff on problem
areas which are reflected by error trends detected during the case review process
Travel within counties served, as well as other counties as needed
*This position may require extensive travel and needs a flexible work schedule; therefore, the
applicant must reside less than a two-hour drive from Pitt County Department of Social Services
Office.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:
Possess current knowledge (within the past two years) of Food and Nutrition Services
policy
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to details
Proven ability in the use of computers and proficiency in using Microsoft Word
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff from local
Departments of Social Services as well as clients, public and private agencies involved in
income maintenance decisions
Demonstrated working knowledge of State information systems (NC FAST, On-line
Verification, etc.)
Knowledge of and/or the ability to interpret State Quality Control process and procedures
Reside less than a two-hour drive from Pitt County Department of Social Services Office
Management Preferences:
FNS supervisory or lead worker experience
Excellent interviewing skills
Current FNS program knowledge
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from a four-year college/university with a degree in a human services field, business
administration or public administration and two years of experience as an income maintenance
caseworker or investigator;
OR
Graduation from an associate degree program in human services technology, social services
associates, paralegal technology, business administration, secretarial science and four years of
experience as an income maintenance caseworker or investigator;
OR
Graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public
contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering
and compiling data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks and four
years of experience as an income maintenance caseworker;
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
