The English Department’s Creative Writing Program, the Honor’s Program, and the
Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Marist College invite you to attend
“Adventures in Translation,” a conversation with Roberta Antognini and Deborah
Woodard, translators of Italian poet Amelia Rosselli.
Deborah Woodard and Roberta Antognini (with Giuseppe Leporace) translated Amelia
Rosselli’s Hospital Series (New Directions: 2015).
Roberta Antognini holds a Phd in Italian from New York University. She is associate
professor and chair of the Department of Italian at Vassar College. Her main research
and teaching interests lie in the Middle Ages and Renaissance literature, history of
Italian language, autobiography and more recently, translation practice and theory. She
is the author of a monograph on Petrarch’s letters, Il progetto autobiografico delle
Familiares di Petrarca (2008), and co-editor of the collection of essays Poscritto a Giorgio
Bassani. (2012).
Deborah Woodard is the author of Plato’s Bad Horse (Bear Star Press, 2006). She has
translated the poetry of Amelia Rosselli from the Italian: The Dragonfly: A Selection of
Poems, 1953-1981 (Chelsea Editions, 2009). Her second collection, Borrowed Tales, was
recently published by Stockport Flats. She teaches at The Richard Hugo House, a
literary and performance center in Seattle.
