Remedial Algebra 1 (N205 and then West Flex Lab)
There will be video announcements at the beginning of the class period. Please turn on the TV to have them
watch the announcements (the TV will already be set to the correct channel, channel 57. If it is not, you’ll have
to borrow the remote from Kris Hegdal in the room next door to change it).
When announcements are over bring the students out to the west flex computer lab (right outside the door to the
classroom). They will be working on a computer program called ALEKS. All students will need to have their
notebooks out to show their work on the problems they are doing. Please walk around the lab to monitor what
the students are doing on the computers and make sure they are working on the correct program for the duration
of the period. I allow them to listen to music, but they must pick a playlist to listen to and then be working for
the rest of the period. If they are on youtube or some other music website instead of working on ALEKS please
have them take their headphones out.
At the end of the period please let them know we will NOT be working on ALEKS
tomorrow (Wednesday) and they should come prepared with their math materials.
Algebra 2
After you have taken attendance, the students will need to check their homework assignment and turn it in. I put
the answers to the homework assignment on the whiteboard in the back of the room. Please give them about 1015 minutes to check their answers and make any corrections to the problems that they got wrong. Remind them
that there will be a quiz over this material next class so they should be talking to each other about the problems
they got wrong. When they are done with their corrections they can keep the homework so they can use it to
study for the quiz. I will collect the homework assignment when I return.
After they’re done checking their homework they will be watching two videos and taking notes on them. While
they are correcting their homework assignment pull up the two videos they’ll be watching. They can be found at
www.phschool.com and enter the web code age-0905. Have them watch both of the videos: “Adding rational
expressions” and “Subtracting rational expressions.” Please make sure they are taking notes while you show the
videos. I will check their notes with their homework next class. You can pause and rewind as necessary.
Once the two videos are over hand out the Practice 9.5 worksheet. Their assignment is to do #5-31. Anything
they don’t finish in class must be finished for homework.
Please remind them again that there will be a quiz over 9.4 and 9.5 material next class!
Algebra 1
This class just took a test so they will not have any homework to correct. All they will be doing today is
working on a final review packet in preparation for the final exam coming up in May. After you’ve taken
attendance hand out the Linear Equations Refresher worksheets and tell them that the entire packet must be
done before the end of the class period.
Debi Varoz is a resource teacher who team-teaches with me this period. I’ve included an answer key for these
problems for both you and Debi. While the students are working please walk around and check their answers as
they go. If a student gets finished with the problems will plenty of time left in the class period, check their
answers and have them correct any problems they didn’t do correctly. Once that is done they have another
review packet that is due on Friday. Have them work on this for the remaining time (I’ve included a few extra
of these packets as well in case they’ve lost theirs – it’s the yellow one).
Please collect the Linear Equations Refresher worksheets at the end of the class period.
