European Project TRANSFER
(Tsunami Risk ANd Strategies For the European Region
Call: Sixth Framework Project FP6-2005-Global-4)
1. Description of the TRANSFER project
The main objectives of the TRANSFER project are: (1) contribute to the
understanding of the processes associated with tsunamis in the European
Atlantic and Mediterranean area; (2) hazard assessment related with
tsunamis in this region; (3) elaborate flood, vulnerability and risk maps for
some specific locations, and finally (4) identify the best strategies necessary
to reduce the risks associated with tsunamis in Europe. Over 30 institutions
participate in this programme including research centres, European
universities and governmental institutions. Focus will be placed on the gaps
and needs for the implementation of an efficient tsunami early warning
