are expected to attend on one of the
designated conference days. 
Literature Festival – Friday, October 31st.
Students should be reading their selected book
and then working on their book summary. A
template was sent home in this week’s Friday
Folder to help with the summary. Your child
should also have a copy in their expando. 

Recorder practice cards due to Mr. Chen next Tuesday
morning, September 30th.
Curriculum News:
Writing & Grammar – This week: D.O.L. 6, saying and phrase: bull in a china shop; this week students
reviewed dictionary skills, using a thesaurus to improve their writing, subject/predicate review, and conjunctions.
Next week - verbs, paragraphing, and we will start our poetry unit. 
Reading – Pollyanna by Eleanor H. Porter. We have completed reading Pollyanna in class. Students are
finishing the last couple pages of their reading workbook now. Next week –wrap up Pollyanna with an
end of book test and the movie. Then we will begin Fire on the Mountain, an Ethiopian Folktale.
Science –Atomic structure with Mr.Wagner. Next week – wrap up atomic structure with a science test
next Thursday, October 2nd.
Math – Addition and subtraction review. Next week – expressions, equations, finding the rule, and
estimate or exact?
World History –The Spread of Islam – we have read about the Five Pillars of Islam, Muhammad the
messenger, Islamic culture in the past, the Crusades, and we completed a map of the Middle East. Next
week – key vocabulary, test review, and a test over the Islam unit is scheduled for Wednesday, October
1st.
Spelling –Unit 2, Week 1 – Prefixes
Next week – Unit 2, Week 2 Digraphs
Specials – This week –P.E. with Mr. Hunt
Next week – Music with Mr. Chen
