The Pride in Art Society produces the Queer Arts Festival (QAF); an annual artist-run
professional multi-disciplinary summer arts festival at the Roundhouse in Vancouver, BC.
Recognized as one of the top 5 festivals of its kind worldwide (Melbourne Sun Herald), QAF
produces, presents and exhibits work with a curatorial vision favouring challenging, thoughtprovoking work that pushes boundaries and initiates dialogue. Each year, the festival theme
ties together a curated visual art exhibition, community visual arts exhibition, performing arts
series, workshops, artist talks, panels, and media art screenings. QAF’s programming has
garnered wide acclaim as “concise, brilliant and moving” (Georgia Straight), “an out-andout cultural bonanza” (Vancouver Sun)," some of the most adventurous of any local arts
festival" (Vancouver Province) and “on the forefront of aesthetic and cultural dialogue
today” (Xtra).
Description:
The Visual Arts Preparator will coordinate the community arts exhibition(s) at the Queer Arts
Festival. Duties will include:
submission management
gathering and maintaining comprehensive information on the works and artists
liaising with participating community artists
assisting with contracting of community artists
managing artwork drop off
participating in installation including hanging, title cards, and artist statements and bios
coordinate deinstall and artwork pick up
The internship will be 8 hours/week with additional hours during installation (June 15th - 19th)
and deinstallation (June 30th).
Qualifications:
Field of study: Fine Arts, Arts and Cultural Management, Non-Profit Management,
Communications, Community Development, Gender Studies, LGBT Studies
Required skills:
1. Organizational skills
2. Human Resources/people management and communication skills
3. Basic computer skills – Word, Excel, e-mail
4. Knowledge of visual art installation an asset
5. Commitment, independence, initiative, time management, and assertiveness skills
