 Position Title:
Editorial and Production Assistant
Organization:
Publication Studio Vancouver (PSV) is a publisher and a gallery. PSV prints and binds books
on demand, creating original work with artists and writers. We are part of an international
network of studios in other cities including Portland, Berkeley, Toronto, Los Angeles and
Malmö. PSV is a laboratory for publication in its fullest sense—not just the production of
books, but the production of a public. PSV presents exhibitions that blur boundaries
between editorial and curatorial practices focusing on visual artwork that relates to an
expanded notion of publication. We also present artist/writer talks, readings, lectures and
book launches.
Description:
In this position the student will:
- learn to print and bind books and assist in the development and completion of ongoing
projects, this includes working with artists and editors, doing research, production,
distribution and event planning
- assist in the running of the space by making and selling books, sitting the gallery once a
week (12-5pm), and helping at special events such as exhibition openings, talks and book
launches
- have the opportunity to develop, produce and distribute a publication project of their
own choosing
Qualifications:
We are looking for 3rd or 4th year undergraduate or a graduate student with a keen interest
in contemporary art practice and artists’ books. It is helpful, but not necessary, if the student
has some design skills and enjoys working with their hands.
