Major in French
The Single or Double Major: Students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a concentration in French must complete at least 30 credits beyond the intermediate (French 201-202) level.
Required Core (15 cr.):
Fifteen Credits including: French 301: French Writing & Grammar (3 cr.); French 302: Reading &
Writing French (3 cr.); French 340: Studies in French or Francophone Literature (6 cr. total; 2 courses
x 3 cr.); and French 476: French Civilization Seminar in English (3 cr.).
Electives (12 cr.):
Twelve Credits from: French 304: French for Business & Professions (3 cr.); French 305: French Conversation (3 cr.); French 320: France Today (3 cr.); French 326: Studies in French or Francophone Art
and Film (3 cr.); or Any additional French 340 with new topic (3 cr.).
Electives in English (3 cr.):
Three Credits maximum from French 370: French Studies in English (3 cr.) or French 378: French
Film Studies in English (3 cr.).
Curricular Notes: French 476 must be completed on campus and may not be fulfilled through transfer or study abroad credit. French 395 Study Abroad credit may be allocated as follows: generic 300level credits (1-8 cr.), French 305 (3 cr.), French 320 (3 cr.).
