ELIGIBILITY:
These scholarship awards are based on the student’s aptitude or an interest as indicated by grades and
recommendations. The applicant must have at least a 2.0 overall high-school average. Student must enroll in
coursework in the area of study for which they are applying. Additional requirements specific to the area of
study are listed in PART 2.
TO APPLY:
PART 1 of this application is demographic information and must be filled out completely. PART 2 contains the
requirements specific for the discipline or department to which you are applying. Completed recommendation
forms, filled in by your high school teacher and your counselor, must be attached. Please have your counselor
mail the recommendation forms and HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT addressed to the relevant department at:

INSTRUMENTAL AND VOCAL MUSIC PERFORMANCE BASED
SCHOLARSHIPS
Dear Prospective MCC Music Student,
The Music Department of Muskegon Community College offers Performance Based Scholarships
to musicians intending to enroll and participate in our Music program. The purpose of this
scholarship is to attract, reward and retain new students in music, while recognizing exceptionally
productive and talented musicians entering the program.
Listed below are the guidelines for awarding these scholarships:
1. Prospective candidates must have a 2.0 grade average from the institution currently or
last attended.
2. The student shall have attained at least a 3.0 grade average in their high school music
courses.
3. Applicants must meet all MCC admission requirements.
4. Each applicant must complete and submit the MCC Music Department Scholarship
request form, accompanied by a letter of recommendation from his or her high school
music director.
5. Each applicant must audition for this scholarship by performing a prepared solo of at
least one minute.
6. The scholarship is only available to incoming freshmen and is renewable on a semester
basis for a total of four semesters. Renewal for subsequent semesters will be granted if
the recipient demonstrates dependability and responsibility in meeting rehearsal and
performance obligations, continues to show outstanding talent and leadership, and
maintains a 3.5 grade point average in the music class.
7. Students who are awarded MCC PBS Music Scholarships will be expected to perform
assigned duties and performances of the music department (for example music librarian,
music archivist, ensemble manager etc) and be enrolled in the course(s) for which the
scholarship was awarded.
8. ALL STUDENT APPLICATIONS FOR THE PERFORMANCE BASED SCHOLARSHIP. MUST
BE SUBMITTED TO THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT NO LATER THAN APRIL 1.
Decisions on applications will be made after application due date of April 1 for new fall awards.
