Illinois, shown on the next page. The catchment characteristics are given in a file on
the website. Design the network for a storm given by the following IDF data:

31. A 200-m long pipe delivers water from one reservoir to another. The elevations of the
water surfaces are 20 m apart. The pipe is commercial steel, and the diameter is 400
mm. The pipeline has two 90◦ flanged elbows, a check valve, and an orifice (K = 2.5).
The water temperature is 20◦ C.
a. Determine the flow through the pipe.
b. Repeat part a but neglect the 6 minor losses. Are the minor losses “minor”?
c. What pipe diameter would be needed for a flow of 1 m3 /s (accounting for all
minor losses)?
