Title: The developmental origins of hand use preference
Abstract:
Preferential arm or hand use (aka being 'right handed' or 'left handed') is a
common feature of adult reaching and grasping functions. Although hand
preference is not thought to stabilize until childhood if not later, recent work
suggested that infants develop a right handed preference for reaching after only
a few months of reaching experience. In this talk, I will present new data looking
for the developmental origins of hand preference within the 'prereaching' arm
movements occurring in the months up to reach onset.
