Fans decide future ISU helmet style
AMES - Block ISU? Script Cyclones? I-STATE?
The fans will help choose.
The Iowa State University athletics department released three helmet designs
Friday. The Cyclones will wear one of them in 2008. In each scenario, the
Cyclones will wear white helmets, a first.
The athletics department will collect input via online voting at www.cyclones.com
through Aug. 31. Fans also can vote in person during the Cyclone FanFest at the
Bergstrom Indoor Practice Facility from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
The choice will be announced this fall.
``Asking for input from our fan base is an important part of the design process,''
ISU football coach Gene Chizik said in a news release. ``In a political year, you
might compare this to a straw poll.''
The athletics department asked for uniform and helmet design concepts several
months ago. A committee of department and campus officials pored over the
ideas, tweaked them and chose three finalists.
ISU will return to a cardinal and gold uniform scheme, eliminating the navy blue
that was added several years ago.
The Cyclones will wear cardinal uniforms with gold pants at home, white uniforms
with cardinal pants on the road.
