include a brief description of the program; specific areas of study can be included in this section
Admission Requirements





the following general statement should be added at the beginning: Applicants must satisfy the University
admission requirements as stated in Graduate General Regulation 1.3 in the SFU Calendar
if there are admission requirements in addition to the University requirements these should be included
language requirements specific to the program should be included
information regarding specific admission documents should not be included because this is available in the
online application and can be added to the program website
specific application dates should not be included because the dates can change (put on website instead)
Program Requirements








include a summary of requirements at the top, followed by specific course requirements and information
for each option (Thesis Option, Project Option*, Extended Essays Option, Course Option); the heading for
each option will be in BOLD and should be in the same order across programs; *project options need to
specify whether the project is examined like a thesis or by two readers.
reference to the number of units required should be stated as “minimum number of units”; units should be
specified as graduate units (unless undergraduate units are allowed); if course units can only come from
specific academic unit(s), this should also be specified
courses should be listed on separate lines so that the course can be a live link (which provides information
regarding the course description, prerequisites, schedule, instructor, and outline)
capstone courses and courses representing a comprehensive exam need to be listed
if there is a departmental requirement for the project or extended essay to be submitted to the library, this
information should be included in the calendar entry
information regarding concurrent Bachelor’s/Master’s program will follow the options
additional requirements should be included with headings in BOLD (e.g. required Co-op, practicum,
internship, research, lab work, etc.)
the word “unit” should be used instead of “credit”, “term” instead of “semester”, “thesis” instead of
“dissertation”

Other Information


other information should be included in this section with headings in BOLD
Examples of other information are: supervision, annual progress report, satisfactory performance,
advancement to candidacy, program withdrawal, a transfer from master’s to PhD program, optional coop/internship/practicum, field placement, etc. (if different from university minimums)

All graduate students must satisfy the academic requirements that are specified in the graduate general regulations, as well
as the specific requirements for the program in which they are enrolled.
