We have spent a lot of time talking about the environment, learning about biodiversity, evolution, and
ecology. It has been an interesting journey and I’m sure you have learned a lot. However, we are nearing
the end of that journey and the questions in front of you now deal with what you do with this new
knowledge. Where do you go from here? The essays I want you to read might help you explore some
possibilities about how to solve some of our problems related to the environment.
I want you to read five of the seven essays from Chapter 7. You must, (I repeat must) read Snyder’s
“Coming into the Watershed”, Carson’s “The Other Road”, and Berry’s “Nature as Measure”. Then, I’d
like you to select any two of the remaining essays to read. After reading all five essays and answering
the questions, I will give you an assignment after Thanksgiving Break that covers this section.
