Assessment and Evaluation
Teachers measure student achievement using level one to four on these achievement categories:
Knowledge/Understanding 14%
Thinking/Inquiry 7%
Communication 7%
Application 42%
Culminating Assignment 30% (administered in the final month of the semester)
70% of the grade is based on evaluations taken throughout the course in the form of daily participation, oral/written tests,
performance tests, learning logs, or projects/presentations.
30% of the grade is based on a final evaluation which takes place during the final unit of the semester. As this final unit
is their exam, attendance is critical to student success. The evaluation will take the form of a written assignment,
target heart rate lab, and a sport performance appraisal. There are no exceptions as it is considered essential.
In every unit there will be at least one essential summative evaluation that must be submitted. In the case of a minor
summative assignment not submitted on the due date, 2% will be deducted a day to a total of 8%. After the fourth day,
a mark of zero will be assigned. Some due dates are non-negotiable (i.e. presentations, labs, etc).
For major summative, the student must hand in either the assignment or the Late Submission Appeal Form (signed by a
parent/guardian). If on the due date, the assignment or the Late Submission Appeal Form is not submitted to the teacher, a
mark of zero will be assigned. If the assignment is not handed in by the due date as outlined on the Late Submission
Appeal Form, a mark of zero will be assigned.
