ETHAN DOBEREINER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
HISTORY:
The Ethan Dobereiner Memorial Scholarship was established in 2012 by Josh and Mindy Dobereiner in
honor of their son. Although Ethan’s life was short, his parents believe helping WIU students achieve
their educational goals can preserve his legacy. Mindy is a 1998 graduate of WIU with a degree in early
childhood education; Josh attended WIU and studied secondary social science education.
CRITERIA:
To apply for the scholarship, applicants must:
1. Be a full-time undergraduate student at Western Illinois University.
2. Be a resident of the Quad Cities or Peoria area.
3. Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.
4. Be enrolled in a teacher education program; preference given to early childhood
education and secondary social science majors.
5. Financial need is a consideration.
TERMS:
Amount of award will be at least $1000 annually and will be applied to the recipient’s account - divided
between the fall and spring semesters. Two awards will be made each year.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
Scholarship is not automatically renewable, but recipients may reapply to be considered for subsequent
years.
SELECTION PROCESS:
The Office of Scholarship Activities will select recipients.
