Our purpose is to promote the conservation and use of native plants through workshops, seminars and
site-based field experiences for K-12 educators, professionals and master gardeners. This is the only
professional opportunity of this kind in the region.
Be sure to watch HOUR CNY at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, June 20, 2006! Donald Leopold and Dudley
Raynal are guests on WCNY (tune to channel 24 or Time Warner Cable 11) to discuss native plants and
the exciting Native Plant Symposium.

Symposium Program
Agenda for Tuesday, June 27th
Choose from field based experiences or visit local nurseries. Learn from and travel with the experts to Natural Areas and Industry-related locations to see a
wide variety of native plants or visit local nurseries that feature native plants. Continental Breakfast at 7:30 am. Meet briefly at 8:00 am in classrooms, field
trips depart with leaders when each group is ready, take box lunches and return at 4:30 pm. Limit of 20 people.
Native trees and shrubs: Led by Catherine Landis, Laura Heath, Matt Buff. Field sites: Oakwood Cemetery, Lafayette Experiment Station, Clark
Reservation. Participants will see over 150 tree and shrubs native to New York and Northeast (Select T 5 on the registration form).
Local Nurseries: Led by Carolyn Deary-Petrocci or others from BOCES. Field trip to local nurseries which feature native plants. Visits to Waterman
Nurseries and Phoenix Flower farm (Select T 6 on the registration form).
Native Wetland Species: Led by Matt Distler, Kay Hajek and Stephen Reynolds. Field trip to various sites. (Select T 7 on the registration form).
State-protected and invasive plant species: State-protected and invasive plants of New York State. Led by Hope Hornbeck and Dudley Raynal
(Select T 8 on the registration form).
We reserve the right to cancel/combine if less than 9 people register.

Attend a field trip led by Don Leopold! Continental Breakfast at 7:30 am. Depart at 8:00 am sharp to travel for a full day with box lunch and return at
4:30 pm. Limit of 25 people.
Native Plants of New York State - Native graminoids, wildflowers, ferns, shrubs, trees. Led by Don Leopold. Possible field sites: Nelson Swamp, Rand
Tract, and other wetland and upland sites. Participants would likely see over 150 plants native to New York and the Northeast (Select TH1 on the
registration form).
