5. What assignments will I need to submit to the University to obtain Masters credits?
When are the assignment deadlines?
The PG Certificate in Teaching Advanced Mathematics consists of 60 credits. The assessment
of the first module, Advanced Level Mathematics Pedagogy, is comprised of two essays and
successful completion of the MEI portfolio. The first essay is due on 12/1/2017 and the second
on 27/4/17. The second module, Advanced Level Classroom Based Enquiry, is comprised of
one essay in which you research an aspect of teaching and learning advanced level
mathematics. This essay is due on 24/8/17. You will receive detailed formative feedback on
your essays to help guide your future writing.
6. I already have Masters’ credits from previous study (e.g. my PGCE at yours or another
University). Can I add the 60 TAM Masters’ credits to these?
The PG Certificate in Teaching Advanced Mathematics award is made up of 60 taught credits.
There is the option to add eligible credits towards progression to a Masters’ award subject to the
rules relevant to that qualification.
For example, progression to the MA in Professional Education could be made up of the
following elements:
 60 credits from the PG Certificate in Teaching Advanced Mathematics.
 60 credits could be from prior certificated learning (e.g. your PCGE if completed within
the last five years) or experiential learning (APEL).
 60 credits from the Dissertation unit.
7. Does successful completion of the ‘TAM with Masters’ course ensure I can progress to a
full Masters’ degree at your university?
Yes, subject to successful application. Tutors will be happy to discuss progression routes with
you.
8. TAM will be my first 60 Masters credits. How much would I need to pay to study for
additional modules at your University? And what modules are available to choose from?
The Centre for Professional Education believe that the best teacher Continuing Professional
Development and Learning is on-going and sustained input in the form of a Masters, and as
such have developed an MA tailored to individual teacher and school needs. The programme
that CPE have developed can be across three years (or less) depending on how much
Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) applies to teachers in schools. Staff that have a PGCE
within the last 5 years already have 60 credits, as do staff who have done the PG Cert in SEN.
Other staff may have APL for NPQ (ML/ SL/ H) courses. The cost of the masters will vary
according to the amount of credits already gained and/or APL. For more information please
contact the MA Course Leader, Deborah Outhwaite on D.Outhwaite@warwick.ac.uk.
9. Are these 60 TAM Masters credits a qualification in their own right?
Yes, successful completion of the 60 credits will confer a PG Certificate in Teaching Advanced
Mathematics award.

is oversubscribed?
It is unlikely we will be oversubscribed.
