1. What do you think Geothermal Energy is?
Geothermal Energy is energy that comes from the heat generated naturally by the earth; the
heat vaporizes a liquid—either water or a refrigerant—and uses that steam to rotate a turbine to make
electricity or as a method of heating and cooling.
2. Where do you think you can find geothermal energy?
Everywhere depending on how deep you dig, the deeper you go the practicality is diminished.
Optimal places include volcanic areas or geysers; anywhere that streams of magma come close to the
earth’s surface.
3. How efficient do you think geothermal power plants are? How efficient do you think geothermal
heating and cooling systems are?
Geothermal Power Plants are 16% efficient
Geothermal Heat Pumps are four times more efficient than fossil fuel plants the most efficient
way to generate temperature change.
4. Is it Sustainable?
Yes, the water that is pumped out of the ground is returned at the end of the process and the
water table naturally equalizes level of water around the well.
5. Why do you think geothermal is so unheard of?
Geothermal energy is very young in the development stages, there are far fewer business that
build geothermal pumps than there are that build solar panels or wind turbines, it is expensive and
inconvenient to install because it requires a lot of open space to put the well into the ground.
