The Bachelor of Music in Music Education

The Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree is a specialized profession al degree designed to prepare students for
teaching in public school music programs. In addition to a general studies program leading to teacher certification, students have
the opportunity to specialize in:

General Education Core in Vocal or Instrumental Education - ENGL 1301, 1302, 2303, and either 2301 or 2302;
three hours from ART 1301 or studio course, or MUSI 3304 or 3305, or THEA 1303; HIST 2301 and 2302; MATH
1304 or equivalent; EXSS 1112 and two activity courses; POLS 2301; EDUC 2307; RLGN 1301 and 1302; One life
science and one physical science course; COMS 1301 or 2302; FREN 1301-1302 or GERM 1301-1302 or SPAN 13011302 (Language requirements may be waived if student had two years of foreign language study in the same language
and the student maintained a B average for the two years of study in high school); COSC 2311 or EDIT 2310 or MUSI
3302; UNIV 1100; GRAD 0001, for a total of 60 hours.
*MUSI 3302 - Music Technology must be taken in the May micro-term after the freshman or sophomore year.

Major (Teaching Field) - Students pursuing all-level music certification must complete a major as well as a
specialization block in music.

All-Level Vocal Music Education (EC-12): developing performance and leadership skills in mixed chorus, men and
women's ensembles, opera, musical theatre, and chamber vocal groups; applied voice; conducting; music theory and
history; and vocal music education. Students must pass the content area practice test prior to student teaching. 58
semester hours with *6 hours from the general education core.
