Vancouver-based Wacom Technology sees new markets for computer pen The computer-and-pen systems that Scott Adams uses to sketch his Dilbert Cartoons and Nike designers use to prototype apparel are in such high demand that the Vancouver business that contributes to much of this technology is expanding. Wacom Technology Corp., headquartered at 1311 S.E. Cardinal Court near Tech Center Drive, expects to open a 51,000 square foot Vancouver warehouse in early August. Today's closing prices: Hewlett-Packard Co., which operates a printer design and Dow Jones 11,055.19, down 45.35 engineering center in Vancouver, Nasdaq 2,2212.87, down 26.21 said today that it has introduced its S&P 500 1,228.30, down 11.19 latest HP TouchSmart PC – the only touch-enabled, all-in-one PC Stocks & Markets in the marketplace – to consumer electronics retailers nationwide. The new TouchSmart allows users to touch, tap or sweep a finger across the PC screen to access information, entertainment and networks without using a keyboard or mouse. Users can play music and create playlists; crop, edit and share photos; and easily check the weather or watch TV. Internet forum will explore online business marketing strategies The Internet Strategy! Forum, a global nonprofit professional association, will hold a daylong summit at Portland's Governor Hotel, 614 SW 11th Ave., on Thursday. Presentations will include: how to create an online social strategy; Internet marketing by the numbers; enhancing Web site experiences; e-mail marketing; mapping the digital landscape. UL opens commercial photovoltaic testing facility Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a product safety testing and certification nonprofit with a major testing facility in Camas, said today it has opened a commercially focused photovoltaic (PV) testing and certification facility in Silicon Valley. Located in San Jose, Calif., UL’s 20,000 squarefoot Photovoltaic Technology Cente! r of Excellence increases testing capacity for the renewable energy in dustry and will enable manufacturers to get UL-Listed PV products to market faster. The 14 test chambers and two solar simulators provide indoor and outdoor testing capabilities to evaluate photovoltaic modules and panels, and a wide variety of power systems accessory equipment. The facility will also offer a full portfolio of pre-certification services, including R&D and training. Underwriters employs about 320 in Camas. People Clark College has named Shelley Das its director of grants development. Das, who earned a master’s degree in political science from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, has more than 15 years of experience in developing grant proposals, research, policy analysis, project management and program development related to labor force development, skills integration, immigrants, women, diversity, human rights and social/cultural issues. Her responsibilities included diversifying funding sources to increase revenue. Correction The location of a Sterling Design Inc. project in Ridgefield was incorrect in a recent BusinessTODAY. The company has submitted plans for an 89-unit single-family home subdivision in the Clark County Fairgrounds area in Ridgefield. Called Velveteen Meadows, the development is planned for 38 acres at 2612 N.E. 175th St., about one mile east of Interstate 5 on the south side of Northeast 179th Street.
