COURSE DESCRIPTION: Aerobic Activities is a course designed to teach individuals how to improve and maintain cardiovascular fitness, muscular fitness, flexibility, and to instill a motivation to retain a regular program through a lifetime activity.

COURSE CONTENT: This class is participation oriented. Movement is presented by means of demonstration and
description. Practice and repetition are the primary modes of learning and are followed by correction, clarification, and more
detailed analysis. Exercises will progress from the simple to the more complex during the semester. Therefore, movement
material will become more complicated and demanding, integrated and refined.



Warm up exercises designed to re-pattern movement habits, stretch and strengthen the body, increase technical
skills, and prepare the student to move fully.
Aerobic combinations of movements (including movement patterns across the floor) which are designed to
improve technical skills, strength and cardiovascular health.
Closing exercise(s) -- incorporating stretching, breathing and centering. The purpose is to bring closure to our
class session, to give care and protection to our muscles and joints and to honor the work we are able to do
together.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1.
Introduces definitions, terms and descriptions relative to aerobic activities
2.
Presents the values and benefits of aerobic activities
3.
Improves and maintains cardio respiratory fitness, muscular and strength fitness, body composition and
flexibility through a series of workouts
4.
Emphasizes a motivation to retain a regular exercise program through a lifetime activity
5.
Learn how to modify and adjust different exercises ( i.e. Intensity, impact, style) to suit one’s fitness needs
and abilities
COURSE OUTCOMES:
1. Students will demonstrate the ability to consistently perform aerobic combinations with the understanding of body
alignment using techniques through classroom participation.
2. Students will show their deepened understanding of balance, flexibility, strength and endurance with increased technical
skills through movements during class.
3. Students will learn to integrate other movement studies into their own personal perspective on the process of developing
technical proficiency by attending outside instruction and writing a paper based on their relationship with in class
experiences and what is taught them.
4. Students will demonstrate their knowledge of aerobic terminology and basics through an in class written exam.
ATTENDANCE & CLASS PARTICIPATION:
Regular attendance and participation is expected. Any student who misses twenty-five (25%) or more of the regularly
scheduled class meetings will receive a grade of F for the course.

misconduct for which a student is subject to penalty includes all forms of cheating. Disciplinary action for academic

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Participate in classroom activities, assignments and discussions.

Wear a sport top with tights, biker shorts or athletic pants. Hair must be secured away from face. Do not wear jewelry
or chew gum in class.


Teach a 10-20 minute workout you designed to the class for final examination. Write up workout/ activity rules and
bring to class to distribute.
GRADING CRITERIA: Grades will consist of daily participation grades, written observation of professional class, quizzes
over terminology learned as well as a course final both written and performance based.
