Minutes of the May 9, 2006 Meeting
I.
President Baker called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm.
II.
Invocation was offered by Dr. John Lomax.
III.
Minutes from April 11, 2006 were approved as submitted.
IV.
Unfinished Business: None.
V.
Spring Graduates: The list of graduates presented by Mr. Carpenter was approved as submitted with
amendments.
VI.
Questions for the President: None.
VII.
University Council: No Further Report.
a. Elections to Faculty Committees and University Council were held. Results are attached to these
minutes.
VIII.
Reports of Constitutional Committees:
a. Budget and Appropriations. No Report.
b. Academic Affairs. No Report.
c. Student Activities. No Report.
d. Personnel.
• A question was asked regarding the wording in the Personnel Committee report regarding the
increase from 6 up to 10 quarters of undergraduate sabbatical per year. Dr. Baker clarified
that the number of sabbatical quarters will still be dependent on the availability of funding.
Professor Keiser commented that the total number of quarters of sabbatical actually awarded
each year will still be dependent on the quality of the proposals submitted. Dr. Lippert
indicated that the university administration only awards the sabbaticals approved by the
Personnel Committee.
• Dr. Lippert indicated that the Search Committee for the Dean of Pharmacy is making progress
and applicants will be invited for interviews soon.
• Dr. Baker reported that Dr. Eric Baumgartner has been hired for the Dean of Engineering
position.
• Dr. Baker indicated that candidates for the Vice President of Advancement are being invited
to campus.
IX.
Reports of Operational Committees.
a. Committee on Athletics. No Report.
b. Cultural and Special Events. Dr. Baker reported that Brigadoon had been extremely successful.
c. International Affairs. No Report.
d. Religious Affairs. Chaplain Vern LaSala welcomed Sandra Hrometz and Harold Putt to service
on the Religious Affairs Committee this coming fall and thanked John Lomax for his past three
years of service on the committee. Dr. Baker expressed thanks for Bishop Ough coming and
speaking on campus.
e. Information Technology. No Report.

New Business: None.

XII.
Announcements:
a. Dr. Baker announced that the Board of Trustees meeting will be held on campus next week. On
Friday, the board will view a DVD film presentation about ONU that has been shown to alumni
around the country this year. Students will also provide live testimony about their experiences at
ONU to the Board. Additionally, the Board will get to see some short presentations from
Brigadoon.
b. Dr. Baker announced that there will essentially be three commencements this year:
i. College of Law commencement will be Sunday, May 14.
ii. College of Business Administration will conduct a special commencement on Friday,
May 19 for alumni that received bachelor’s degrees in Business prior to 1978 from the
College of Arts and Sciences. Approximately 150 participants are planning to attend the
ceremony to receive a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
iii. Dr. Baker announced that the university graduation will be May 21, and the speaker this
year will be Mr. Jim Dicke II.
c. Dr. Thiesen announced that ONU will be hosting the Division Three Ultimate Frisbee Nationals,
which will be held in Versailles, Ohio, May 20.
d. The annual organizational faculty meeting will be on August 30, 2006. The next regular faculty
meeting will be on September 12, 2006 at 4 pm.
