Health Information Technology
The Health Information Technology (HIT) program provides students with the skills and competencies in health data
management, information policy, information systems, and administrative and clinical work flow critical to function in an
electronic environment.
Students will learn the basic concepts and functions of the origin, use, content, and format of the health record; gain an
understanding of the legal and ethical responsibilities of a health care facility; and gain an understanding of the electronic
medical record and its use in the health care facility.
This program will provide students with the skills necessary to sit for the national exam for certification as a Registered
Health Information Technician (RHIT).
With the nearly universal implementation of electronic medical records and communications, this program will provide
increased employment opportunities in the health care records industry.
The HIM/HI Associate of Applied Science degree program in Health Information Technology is in Candidacy status,
pending accreditation review by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management
Education (CAHIIM).
