SUCCESS
Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.
Abraham Lincoln
Dear NCCC Alumni and Friends,
As we approach the beginning of an exciting
period for the college towards campus
revitalizations and gravely needed upgrades,
I would like to express the Foundations
sincere gratitude to all who have made
contributions to the College through the
projects, events and scholarships which you
hold dear to your hearts. Each person who
participates, no matter the size of the amount,
owns a piece of the progress which is making
Neosho County Community College the
fastest growing Community College in the
state of Kansas. This is certainly an enormous
accomplishment!
The Foundation is proud to take the lead in
promoting and supporting the college and
its endeavor to provide the highest level of
education in both traditional and trade skills
to all students. The need has also increased
as students, both who are traditional and
those going back to pick up some additional
classes, is at an all-time high. Your support
of these students fills the much needed
encouragement of developing a foundation
for the base of sustained economic growth.
Through the course of the last year, the
establishment of a much needed alumni
baseline has been achieved. Knowing where
those that attended NCCC are is a vital line
to maintaining the growth and enrichment
of current students. If you have been missed
and would like to be included in the alumni
newsletter, please contact Sarah Smith at 620431-2820 ext. 501 to get connected with your
fellow alums.
It has been an exciting 75 years for the
college with many great accomplishments.
The foundation for the next 75 is off to a
great start and will provide an institution that
will enrich and develop NCCC students for
generations to come. Please join us and watch
these students and the college grow.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful
2012.
Tim Heenan
The 2011-2012 school year was our 75th
anniversary and it was a great year indeed!
We ended with nearly 50,000 credit hours, up
10% over last year, an all-time college record!
We added more students than any other
community college in Kansas this fall. In
fact, only Fort Hays and Wichita State added
more students than NCCC! We awarded
1,115 degrees and certificates this year.
The College received over $2 million in
competitive government grants this year alone
including the JIIST grant that helped fund

Neosho County Community College is growing and we have been for the
last 8 years. This steady growth has created some good problems for NCCC.
Unfortunately both infrastructure and personnel strain to meet the needs created
from our growing pains and students need financial help more than ever. Over
the past year the NCCC Foundation awarded $65,000 in scholarships and
the demand continues to grow. Even with the endowed scholarship numbers
steadily growing we cannot keep up with the need.

Endowed scholarship are funds that are given to the NCCC Foundation to
fund scholarships for perpetuity or forever. The minimum amount to make a
scholarship endowed is $10,000; however, all of the funds do not have to be
given at one time.
It can take up to 5 years to complete the endowment process, during that
period of time no scholarships can be funded. It is always better to make
arrangements for an endowed scholarship sooner rather than later. There
are several reason for this; first you can set up the criteria you want for your
scholarship to be given, second you can be acknowledged for you contribution,
and third you get to see what you gift has done to improve student's lives.

75 YEARS OF SUCCESS
On August 20, 2012 the college started a year-long celebration of 75
along with corn-on-the-cob, several salads. 1,000 cupcakes were
years of student success. The kick-off event was a community event
served for dessert.
and all was invited to participate with a day of activities and celebration.
Horse rides, cake walks, inflatable, dunk tanks, dance competition,
Hawaiian Ice and free T-shirts for the first 500 people were enjoyed.
M&M Ranch provided an entire beef that was barbecued and served
Music was provided by DJ, Jeff Slane under the walkway between
Stoltz and Sanders Halls and the evening ended with a fireworks
display that wowed the crowd. The celebration continued with
an event each month.
A VERY SUCCESSFUL YEAR!
Baseball won regionals and played in the JUCO World
Series for the first time in 8 years. But that is not all! Eight
baseball players were named to All-Conference teams
including Adam Giacalone who was named Conference
MVP. Giacalone was named Conference Pitcher of the
Week (2 times), National Pitcher of the Week, and Conference Hitter of the Week. Max Ising was named National
and KJCCC Pitcher of the Week. Matt Strahm was the
Conference Pitcher of the Week. Baseball has two players
on the All-Region team and finished 2nd in the Jayhawk
Eastern Division. Steve Murry collected his 750th win and
only needs 4 more to reach 800! To top it all off three of
our students signed contracts to play professionally.
Softball placed one on the All-Conference team.
Luck is not chance, it’s toil; fortune’s expensive smile is earned.
Wrestling had a National Champion, Jeff
Emily Dickinson
Vesta, and a third place finisher, Le'Roy
Barnes. Head Wrestling Coach Wayne
Petterson was named Man of the Year
by his fellow coaches. Wrestling finished
11th in the Nation.
Softball placed one on the All-Conference team. Three volleyball players were
named to All-Conference teams with
three All-District volleyball players. And we
had one All-American nominee in volleyball. Men’s basketball had one studentathlete earn All-Region Selection. Two
men’s basketball players were named
to All-Conference teams. Men’s basketball finished third in the Kansas Jayhawk
Eastern Division.
Women’s basketball placed one on an
All-Conference team. Track and field had
five student-athletes qualify for Indoor
Nationals and four student-athletes qualify
for Outdoor Nationals.
National Champion, third place finisher, Le'Roy Barnes
Cross Country had one selected to an
All-Conference team with Leslie Rosario
National Champion, Jeff Vesta
winning the Regional Championship and
finishing 20th out of 268 student-athletes
at Nationals!
Cross Country's Leslie Rosario wins the
Regional Championship and finished 20th
out of 268 student-athletes at Nationals.

Benefactors
of NCCC
On January 21, 2012 as part of our 75th anniversary
celebration Elva Uthman and Harold Turner, citizens of
Neosho County were recognized for their scholarship
contribution to NCCC. Endowed scholarships at
Neosho County Community College are essential for
our students; these scholarships help students attend
NCCC without having to borrow large amounts of funds.
Above: Elva Uthmann presents $500 scholarship

endowed scholarship at NCCC while Elaine & Herman
Colvin look on.
Right: NCCC Men’s Basketball Coach, Jeremy Coombs
accepts a check from Harold Turner, ’69 alum and
stand-out basketball player for NCCC. Contributions
can be made to the Harold Turner endowed scholarship
by contacting the NCCC Development office at 620431-2820 x 243.
Neosho County Community College
has embarked on a mission to revitalize the Chanute
campus. The campus was built in 1968 and has not
had seen any major renovations over the past 44 years.
Rowland Hall was the first project in our renovation.
Rowalnd Hall has been transformed into a state-of-theart teaching facility. Students in health care departments
can be confident that they are getting the best education
possible with skills labs, a simulated operating room,
and true to life simulation rooms for real life experience in
clinical settings.
The Student Union was also a part of the renovation
plan this year. The bathrooms from 1968 got a much
needed face-lift. Good riddance to 1968 green. The gym
and locker rooms are practically unrecognizable after
their renovation. The gym is better than ever with a new
sprinkler system, new seating, and best of all a new gym
floor.
Softball can enjoy a new field that will not flood anymore
as it has been relocated and upgraded with new
everything. The dugouts have been fitted with rest
rooms, storage and a concession stand.
It has been a very hectic, nerve-racking, exciting, and
most of all a successful year for NCCC. We are proud
of the work that has been accomplished and encourage
everyone to come and take a look at the wonderful
changes that have been made.
