z All of the outer rings
have 6 valence
electrons
z Also since the outer
ring isn't full, it’s
reactive.
z It can take in 2 more
valence electrons
Solid? Liquid? Or Gas?
zAll of our elements are solids except for
Oxygen, which is a gas.

What They Look Like…
z Oxygen is clear and colorless
z Sulfur is yellowish and powdery
z Selenium is round and grayish/silver
z Tellurium is rockish and dark
z Polonium is dark and shiny
Our Elements Are Used For…
z Oxygen- Is used for all living things to breath, and is
found in the earth’s crust.
z Sulfur- Is turned into Sulfuric Acid (H SO ), and is
manufactured for fertilizers and found in batteries.
z Selenium- Is a semi-conductor and is sensitive to
light.
z Tellurium- Is used for tinting glass and for ceramics.
z Polonium- Is used in an anti-static brush to remove
negatives and prints.
