The importance of many straits’ locations in Geo-Political Scène,
and the roles that they play in the International Trade

• The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program
brings 200 outstanding mid-career professionals
from countries in states of development or
transition to the United States to engage in nondegree study and related professional experiences
at select American universities. Started in 1978, the
program now has a network of over 4,200 alumni in
157 countries around the world.

In November 1944, Senator William Fulbright
was elected to the U.S. Senate and served there
from 1945 through 1974, becoming one of the
most influential and best-known members of the
Senate. In 1949, Senator Fulbright became a
member of the Senate Foreign Relations
Committee. From 1959 to 1974 he served as
chairman of the committee. -
The Fulbright Program operates in
over 160 countries worldwide.
Approximately 8,000 grants are
awarded annually. Since its
inception in 1946 approximately
360,000 “Fulbrighters” have
participated in the program.
Fulbright alumni serve in
leadership positions in government,
academia, business, the arts,
science, journalism, and other
professional fields and are the
recipients of 53 Nobel Prizes, 88
Pulitzer Prizes, 29 MacArthur
Foundation Awards, and 16 U.S.
Presidential Medals of Freedom.
