in support of scale up of nutrition and endorsement of action plan

Strategy 1: Optimize nutrition services
with existing partners
Comprehensive partner analysis completed to analyze
performance of program (IMSAM)
Bilateral meeting with partners held to follow up to
identify potential area of expansion and optimize the
coverage
Workshop held to address the programming, reporting on
programme performance issues
Strategy 2: Expand Operational
Partnership
Caseload analysis done to identify the uncovered areas
BRAC and Real Medicine Foundation contacted to expand
coverage in hard-to-reach areas , discussion continue to
reach additional 22 000 children .
Additional agreement with 3 partners finalized by WFP and
one is pending to reach additional 32,540 children in next five
months
Strategy 3: Improve Community
Outreach and Screening/Referrals
Operational plan for community based approach
through social mobilization network and MOH is
developed to improve the coverage in Central
Equatoria, Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Warrap to
reach additional 50,000 children
Follow up done with South Sudan Red Cross for use
of volunteer network in screening and referrals ,
response awaited
Strategy 4: Provision of Technical
Support to Enhance Service Quality
• WFP : Identification of 7 nutritionists for RRM ( 2 already in
country and the rest by the end of August)
• UNICEF : three national nutritionist joined for RRM mission ,
three international nutritional specialist will join by 15th August.
• Training Needs assessment conducted with partners and
continue for the capacity building program in the area of
• Inpatient treatment and management of children with SAM
• Outpatient therapeutic program both for MAM and SAM
• Infant and young child feeding counselling
• Training scheduled to start on 5th August (integrated
CMAM/IYCF) by ACF
Strategy 5: Strengthen Existing Supply
Chain Pipeline Management
- Workshop held on 22 July 2014 to address
the supplies, programming, reporting on
programme performance issues
- Collaboration with Sudan and Ethiopia
country office to avert pipeline breaks and
ease access to counties along the borders
- Additional warehouse leased in Juba to
strengthen prepositioning capacity
Strategy 6: Direct Implementation
Through RRM
- WFP : Additional RRM team identified to increase RRM teams
from 6 to 15 .
- Since the last nutrition cluster meeting (18 July 2014),
nutrition participated in 3 Rapid Response Missions
1. Duk (in collaboration with JDF)
2. Gorwai (in collaboration with COSV)
3. New Fangak (in collaboration with Nile Hope)
Strategy 7: Enhanced Needs Analysis
and Coordination
- 3 surveys ongoing with ACF
- Validation of pending SMART surveys done by CDC
- Validation process and dissemination process of
SMART surveys streamlined
- Concept note for trilateral agreement between FAO,
WFP and UNICEF under review for the FSMS to
strengthen nutrition component
- Recruitment of nutrition survey consultants initiated
by UNICEF for direct implementation of surveys in
priority counties
