Planning: Brainstorm & Organize (homework) Writing (in-class) Question: How can spatial technologies help us better understand the 2 types of geography, the 5 themes of geography, and the 3 questions of geography? Planning/Brainstorming Hypothesis/Evidence Template Question: How can spatial technologies help us better understand the 2 types of geography, the 5 themes of geography, and the 3 questions of geography? What is the task (in your own words): Key Terms to Discuss: Describe what spatial technology can do 3 themes of geography and how is it better than a physical map in the 2 types of geography, the 5 themes of geography, and the 3 questions of geography. Hypothesis: Spatial technologies help us understand the world better than physical maps. Explanation of Idea Spatial technology like GIS can help identify unexplored human lands, which helps with the physical theme of geography. Humans can't always explore every inch of Earth and know where places are. Because of this, we need spatial technology to discover undiscovered lands. Because satellites can act as "eyes" for humans, we don't need to risk human lives for exploring. Spatial technology also answers region, place, and location, where we can Socials 9 GIS Writing Page 1 know where things are located and what the terrain is like. Evidence: Inference Explanation of Idea Spatial technology can store information and record events happening. Spatial technology can store statistics such as population, climate, weather, etc which helps us better understand human interaction and region. We can record things using spatial technology instead of actual human beings being on the lookout. The information can also answer “Why there?” because it shows the statistics of how the location is. Also, it covers how the region was formed, by looking at the rocks and terrain. Evidence: Inference Explanation of Idea Spatial technological maps can explain the world a lot better than physical maps. Spatial technological maps can display a lot more information than regular physical maps. For example, Google maps have a built in map where you can literally see the world as if you were walking there. This answers the 5 themes of geography. Also, spatial technological maps can display 2 types of information, physical and human, which helps us better understand the 2 types of geography. Evidence: Connection Paragraph: Spatial technology helps us better understand the world than physical maps, because spatial technology like GIS can help identify unexplored human lands, which helps with the physical theme of geography, spatial technological maps can explain the world a lot better than physical maps, and spatial technology can store information and record events happening. Spatial technology allows us to explore places where we normally can’t go because of the terrain, which helps us better understand the place and the absolute location, spatial technology allows us to record and store information which can help us understand why care and why there, and spatial technological maps allows us to fit all of the information that is out there, unlike physical maps.
