GUIDANCE NOTES:

A.

GENERAL NOTES

1.

This application form is for the schemes listed on the Undergraduate Funding Awards website and those which (if you are eligible), you will be considered for through this application form;

2.

Please ensure you read about these schemes and their respective eligibility requirements to ensure you are eligible for at least one of the awards before completing the application form;

3.

This application form is intended only for undergraduate UK/EU applicants to UCL who wish to be considered for any of the Undergraduate Funding Awards;

4.

You will need to submit one form and one set of supporting documentation only;

5.

The UCL Bursary entitlement for UK/EU students will be calculated automatically and paid via the Student Loans Company and there is no need to complete this application to apply for this;

6.

The Student Funding Office (SFO) will consider you for all awards for which you are eligible, providing you have submitted the required supporting documentation. It is therefore important for you to read the web information about the awards you are interested in to ensure you submit the necessary documentation for us to consider you;

7.

You are required to provide supporting documentation relating to income, appropriate to your circumstances. Only photocopied documents should be submitted; however original copies may be requested from you at a later stage;

8.

If you have been offered a scholarship, bursary, Student Finance loan or any other financial assistance for your forthcoming education, please attach a copy of the letter notifying you of your award/loan ;

9.

Please do not enclose any documents not required or requested (such as a CV);

10.

We may also require one Academic Reference from your current ‘A’ level (or equivalent) teacher if a scheme you are interested in being considered for requires you to demonstrate academic merit or excellence. For more information about references, please download the

Information for Referees on the web page for Undergraduate Funding Awards where you will also be able to download a template for the Academic Reference, or you may guide your

Referee to the web page for them to download the relevant details in order to complete and return to us;

11.

Only request and submit an Academic Reference, if a scheme you are interested in being considered for requires evidence of academic excellence or merit – please refer to relevant scheme(s) web page.

12.

If you must send supporting documents separately, then please note this in the application form. Each document sent separately must be marked

for <your name>” and “<Student ID number>” (if you have one) at the top of each page;

Please ensure that all information is typed if possible. The presentation and legibility of your application does matter. If you are unable to type the form and required documents, please explain why, and make sure you write legibly (in black ink);

14.

Please complete all relevant fields. Do not provide information on separate sheets unless the application form asks you to do so;

15.

All sums of money referred to, must be in UK pounds sterling (£);

16.

When we request information about the financial status of you or your family

(parent(s)/guardian(s)), we are interested in the financial information (wages/salaries) relating to the 12 month period immediately prior to the month/year of your entry to UCL.

17.

Before posting your application to us, please re-read it carefully for accuracy and make sure you keep a copy of your application for your files;

18.

If possible, please do not fold your application, and use an A4 envelope to post it to us;

19.

Please do not include your scholarship application with your application for admission. Each application must be sent separately to the relevant sections within UCL;

20.

Please note the application deadline on our website. You must have returned your application and full supporting documentation to us by this date and time in order for it to be valid. We apologise but we are unable to acknowledge receipt of application forms;

21.

We do not accept incomplete, late or faxed applications;

22.

You are unlikely to be considered for a scholarship if UCL is your Insurance university choice;

23.

The decision of UCL is final and we cannot, regrettably, participate in any individual correspondence with applicants before or after that decision;

Only successful applicants and reserve candidates will be notified due to large amount of the applications we receive each year

In this section, we are looking your overall financial circumstances: previous financial awards; employment; whether you have considered working part-time upon commencing your studies. You will be asked to estimate your

Annual Expenditure once at university. We will also seek information as to what preparation you have made for your studies and where this financial assistance will come from, family, scholarships/awards, student loans, benefactor, employer etc.

You will also be asked about your family income and the financial commitments they (you) have. This will give us a clearer picture of your financial circumstances and the likelihood of additional financial need while you study at UCL.

There are no right or wrong answers. We need to target financial assistance where it is needed most; we therefore need to understand your financial circumstances upon entering higher education.

Any general communication with you will be via email, so please ensure you provide us with a valid email address.

If successful, you will be sent a formal letter of an offer of award. It is therefore important that you provide a contact address where you can be reached from June through to September 2013.

The UCL website provides some estimates for the cost of living but individual circumstances will vary – where you choose to live will affect rental costs and cost of travel etc. Please make reasonable assumptions about the true cost of studying in

London. Appropriate and thought-through budgeting will assist you in many ways during the length of your study

Priority debts may include: o Secured loans (e.g. loans that are secured against a debtor’s home) o Rent arrears o Council tax o Fines, maintenance and compensation orders o Charges for utilities o TV licence o Tax and VAT o National Insurance contributions o Hire purchase/conditional sale agreements for goods that are essential for the debtor to retain.
