Hayden/Scott Civil War Project:
Project Description: In an effort to make the Civil War a little more relevant and
interesting to you, we are creating presentation opportunities that you as an
individual or with one partner will research and present. WE are providing limited
days to work on this in-class and have several requirements that must be met. If we
feel that individuals and partnerships are NOT taking full advantage of the time to
prepare during our class time it WILL be reduced or taken away……….YOU DON’T
WANT THAT!!
The class is COUNTING on you to teach them
about this topic…They will be tested so
DON’T BE A WEAK LINK
Procedure:
1. Researching - Quality is more important than Quantity!
A. Use Cornell Notes, Outline format, or notecards to complete research on
your topic. This will be a daily grade based on participation and work
ethic.
B. Make sure to cite each source in notes and on work cited page using
citationmachine.net or easybib.com. This will be included in your blendspace.
2. BLENDSPACE include the following:
A. CONTENT: Make sure to include all content researched including the
required bulleted items.

the information you provide).
Presentation Topics:

guide your research.
If topic is not a battle then refer to the specified list beneath topic.
WE WILL NOT TELL YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO RESEARCH; IT IS
YOUR JOB TO DECIDE WHAT IS NECESSARY FOR YOUR CLASSMATES.
MEET WITH US IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE MAKING THE CALL OF

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER
1. Wednesday, 25th: Receive Project Description
2. Thursday, 26th: Provide teacher with brief paragraph on
topic choice if you feel strongly about a choice and KNOW
you want to do that. Include partner name if working
with another student. Must be with someone in your
class
3. Friday, 27th: Topics that are left will be chosen by class,
partners will also be selected for those that want one.
4. Tuesday, October 2nd: DUMP DAY-- By the end of class
you have the right to dump your partner, if you choose to
keep them you have them for the duration.
5. Second half of class on Friday, 27th through Friday
October 5th: In-Class work days.
a. ** If you are absent one of these days you are still
responsible to complete project on given date.
6. Friday, October 5th: Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Hayden must
receive handouts to copy for students. Presentation also
must be saved on teacher’s zip drives.
Review Due Dates and Possible Concerns:
The due dates of the various parts of the project will differ as will the dates for each
project topic. This represents life- so those that present earlier in the presentation
schedule can expect that we will take that into account and those that present later in
the schedule should also understand that we will expect more as you have had more
time to prepare.
At the midway point of your time in class, 10/2 we will hold a “Dump Day.” This is your
opportunity to ‘dismiss’ the partner who did not attend work sessions or the one you
suspect will ‘drop the ball.” After the class prep days conclude, if you keep them, you’ve
got them for the duration of the project. There will not be any complaints entertained
by Mrs. Hayden or Mrs. Scott after Dump Day as this was fully explained before we
even began the project AND you were not made to choose a partner. It has been our
experience that if someone was a pain before the project, there is ample likelihood that
they will continue to be a pain in the butt during and after. There ARE worse things
than working by yourself! 
Question: What happens if you OR your partner are NOT present for your appointed
presentation?
Answer: If you are not here and your absence is found to be unexcused; your grade
will default to a ZERO. If your absence is excused, you will be staying after school on a
Wednesday leave-early day to present to us and your resources will be distributed to
the class. Mrs. Hayden and Mrs. Scott will be presenting your content material to the
class as you were not there!!
