Dissociative Identity Disorder
Definition: A severe condition in which 2 or
more identities, or personality states are
present in, and take control of an
individual.
Facts
Average number of alters: 15
Average age of development: 5.9 years old
Most common in women, affects 1% of
population
Patients score high on all measures of
psychosis and are commonly depressed,
suicidal, and self-mutilate
Causes
99% of patients suffered from severe
physical and sexual abuse at a very young
age which caused them to retreat into their
own minds, and dissociate.
Effects
Alters have different speech, attitudes,
thoughts, gender orientation, race, mental
disorders, and gestures.
Physically, they have certain allergies,
prescriptions, and conditions.
Can be very aggressive to the Host
personality, other alters, and the outside
world
Treatment Plans
Strong therapeutic relationship through
psychotherapy, hypnosis to uncover
childhood memories repressed, and art
therapy- many patients draw their alters
It's long and challenging and is hardly
curable, most integrate some alters into
personality
Activity
Get into groups of 5
Draw each of the patient's personalities, how
you imagine they would be.
Remember that they're all one person while
you are drawing.
