Lab Procedures
1. Wash your hands at your station or use hand sanitizer to sanitize
your hand.
2. Obtain 2 pieces of bubble gum.
3. Take each piece of bubble gum out of the wrappers, place the
wrapper on the balance and re-zero the balance.
4. Place your unchewed pieces of bubble gum on the appropriate
wrapper. Weigh and record the mass in your data table. Be sure to
include the correct unit.
5. Each member of the group should chew a piece of gum until it
does not taste sugary anymore.
6. Weigh and record the mass of the two pieces of chewed gum
(again on the wrapper and not the actual scale. It might be
necessary to repeat weighing and re-zeroing the two wrappers).
7. Place the chewed pieces of bubble gum in the wrapper and
dispose of it in the trash can.
8. Calculate the amount of sugar that has been lost and calculate the
percent of sugar in the bubble gum.
