COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & OFFICE COORDINATOR
ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW:
Bike Works, based in Seattle, builds sustainable communities by educating youth and promoting bicycling. Bike Works has
been working for kids, bikes, and community in Seattle since 1996. Our programs and services invest in young people and
encourage bicycling as a clean and healthy transportation alternative. Each year approximately 600 youth, ages 9 to 17,
participate in our programs and gain the skills and resources they need to translate lessons about confidence and leadership
into their own lives, helping them make healthier decisions about their futures. We also take in over 4,000 bicycle donations
annually and redistribute these bikes to youth and adults in Seattle and internationally through our programs and bike shop.

ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Bike Works Community Engagement & Office Coordinator aids the Development Manager in sustainable fundraising and
community engagement efforts through assisting with donor cultivation events, community engagement efforts and outreach
opportunities. This person also helps manage the office and administrative needs at Bike Works. This position reports directly to
the Development Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong multi-tasker with substantive event planning , writing
skills, excellent attention to detail, computer skills (fundraising database experience preferred), and enthusiasm for working as part
of a team.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
 Provide logistical support for the Bike Works Annual Auction and other fundraising events
 Lead in event planning for Bike Works sponsored community events such as our Kids Bike-o-Rama, Bikecitement,
and the Youth Bike Summit as well as the community events we participate in annually such as the Rainier Valley
Heritage Parade and the Bike Expo
 Coordinate requests for Bike Works to attend community events and outreach opportunities
 Organize volunteers for our annual auction, special events and outreach opportunities
 Manage donor, volunteer and email databases to ensure accurate donor records
 Coordinate Bike Works email newsletter, mailing appeals, and other donor communication and cultivation
 Participate with Development Manager and other staff in developing strategies for effective fundraising
 Support staff of Bike Works by managing administrative and office needs
 Support accounting activities such as receiving and copying checks, making weekly deposits, and matching up
accounting and donor records
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
 Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
 Event planning experience
 Excellent verbal communication skills and strong writing and editing capabilities
 Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
 Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
 Advanced skills with Microsoft Office and the Windows environment; proficiency in relational databases or
willingness and ability to learn new programs easily
 Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
 Willingness to work outside of office hours on occasion to support events
 Strong commitment to promoting bicycling, supporting youth and to advancing social change
PREFERRED:
 Prior development or nonprofit experience and familiarity with fundraising strategies
 Familiarity with volunteer or donor databases, Vertical Response, Excel and Adobe Creative Suite

COMPENSATION:
$29,000-32,000 (starting salary depends on experience), plus benefits, including medical, dental, vacation, sick leave, and
flexible work schedule/environment.
