‫وصف المقرر وأهدافه‬
-Studying the properties of electric charges, Coulomb's law, The electric field, electric field of a
continuous charge distribution, electric field lines, Gauss's law, and application of Gauss's law to
various charge distributions.
- Studying the potential difference and electric potential, potential differences in a uniform electric
field, electric potential and potential energy due to point charges, and obtaining the value of the
electric field from the electric potential.
- Understanding the relation between capacitance and dielectrics, definition of capacitance,
calculating capacitance, combinations of capacitors, energy stored in a charged capacitor,
capacitors with dielectrics.
- Studying the direct current circuits, the electromotive force, resistors in series and parallel.
- Understanding the relation between current and resistance, a model for electrical conduction and
the electrical power.
- Studying nature and speed of light and the laws of geometric optics (reflection, refraction,
Huygens's principle, Fermat's principle).
- Understanding the image formation by flat mirrors, spherical mirrors, images formed by
refraction, thin lenses, the camera, the human eye, the simple magnifier, the compound
microscope and the telescope.

a.Knowledge
By the compilation of this course, the students will be able to:
- Understand and know the scientific background of electrostatics and optics.
- Have a scientific background about the nature of optics.
- Understand the theories and principle of electrostatics.
- Understand in depth the theoretical basis of reflection and refraction of light.
- Know the processes and methods of forming the images by mirrors and lenses.
- Understand the relationships between the electric field and the electric potential.
- Acquire scientific (or theoretical) ideas, approaches and theories of optical instruments.
- Understand the methods of observing, recording, interpreting experimental results.
- Know and understand detailed and critical knowledge, including knowledge of the most advanced, in
selected areas relevant to electrostatics and optics.
- Practical understanding of the nature of scientific knowledge and of techniques and tools for searching
the scientific literature.
-Knowledge of numerical, graphical, statistical and other methods for analyzing experimental data.
